| Helping Haiti
The need for help in impoverished Haiti is great. You can make a big difference in the lives of Haitians by buying products made in Haiti, by Haitians. There are many other Caribbean inspired objects out there mass produced in other countries. But by chosing products like those offered at Ocean Gifts, you are assured the beautiful art piece you display in your home has in turn touched the lives and enriched the villages of the very people who crafted it by hand for you. |

To find out more about the serious situation in Haiti, we have provided the following links to media coverage:
Unicef Press Centre Washington Post Article Caring House Project BBC Story |
FOR THE MONTHS OF JULY AND AUGUST 10% OF ALL METAL GECKOS PURCHASED ON OUR SITE WILL GO TOWARD THE BUILDING OF A NEW VILLAGE IN HAITI.
We are partnering with the Caring House Project Foundation to provide specific relief to the crisis in Haiti through the current project that will provide a new village in Los Cacaos, Haiti, located on the Haiti/Dominican Republic border. Please check back to this page at the beginning of September to see how much we've donated.
Overview:
The site is an arid and desolate area over 4 hours from the nearest city. No international relief gets there. Many families have set up residences along the border, known as "The Line," many of them children who are so malnourished and weak that they cannot even beg for food.
With your help the Caring House Project Foundation will create a new village from this barren land. The new village, Los Cacaos will be complete in early 2008. There are thousands of lives at stake. Renewable food (3 Tilapia fish ponds, vegetable farm w/green house and goat, chicken, and pig farm). Sanitation (25 pit latrines and 25 shower stalls). Clean drinking water. |
